How to order from Taobao from outside China — step by step
Taobao, Weidian and 1688 are Chinese-language sites that mostly don't ship overseas. Here's the whole route from "I found a thing on Twitter" to a box at your door — including who decides what, and when.
Short answer: you don't order from Taobao directly — a proxy buying service (also called a shopping agent, or a Taobao agent) buys the item on your behalf, receives it at a warehouse in China, photographs it, and then ships it internationally once you say so. There are five stages, and only one of them is pure waiting.
The five stages, in order

Paste any Taobao, Weidian or 1688 product link into the shop search — or search by keyword right here, or upload a picture if all you have is a screenshot from Discord, X or Pinterest. Image search looks for the same or a similar listing across all three platforms. You can browse and see prices without an account; an account is needed to actually place the order and track it.
- 2We buy it, and the seller ships it to our China warehouse
You pay the item price plus China-domestic shipping, and our buying team purchases from the original seller. How fast the seller then ships domestically is up to that seller, not up to us. You can follow this stage under My Account → Orders, where every item carries its own status. Nothing appears on your Warehouse page yet, and that's normal — the Warehouse page only lists goods that have physically arrived and been checked in.
- 3It arrives, gets checked in and photographed
When the seller's parcel reaches us we count it, inspect it and photograph it — 3 to 7 photos per product, free. Check-in usually takes about one to three working days before the item shows up on your Warehouse page with its weight and its QC photos.
The part people get wrong: there is no approval gate. Photos are taken for everything and they simply wait on your Warehouse page for you to look at. Your parcel is only ever held back when our own quality check finds a problem — then we come to you and ask what you'd like to do. Otherwise, the timing is entirely yours: nothing ships until you submit the parcel yourself. - 4You consolidate and submit the parcel
Items sit in the warehouse while you wait for the rest of your haul. When you're ready, tick the items on the Warehouse page and press Submit parcel — several shops' worth of goods get repacked into one box, so you pay international shipping once instead of per shop. Two things to have ready: a saved delivery address (My Account → Addresses), and a rough idea of what you want to send. You then get a list of real shipping lines with real prices for your country. Lines that can't legally carry what you picked are greyed out with the reason shown, so if at least one line is selectable you're fine — and nothing is charged until you choose a line and pay.
- 5International shipping, customs, doorstep
Pick a line, pay the international leg, and the parcel leaves China with tracking. Faster lines cost more and slower ones cost less; delivery time depends on the line and your destination country. After that it clears customs in your country and is handed to a local courier for the last mile.
What you actually pay for
Payment happens in two stages rather than one, which surprises people the first time: the goods first, the international shipping later, once you know what's in the box.

"Chargeable weight" means the greater of the parcel's real weight and its volumetric weight — which is why a big box of light plushies can cost more to ship than a small heavy one, and why consolidating is the biggest lever you have on the final bill. Which platform should you buy from?
All three work the same way once a proxy is in the middle, so the choice is about what you're hunting. Taobao carries the widest selection and is where most people start. Weidian is where indie sellers, fan circles and made-to-order pieces live. 1688 is wholesale — cheaper per unit, but with minimum quantities, so it suits cosplay materials, fabric and group buys more than a single figure. What we don't do
Worth reading before you order, because a wrong assumption here is what turns a fine order into a bad experience:
- We don't contact sellers on your behalf. If you need a question answered about a listing, the options still selectable on the product page are the ones still buyable — that's the honest signal we can give you.
- We can't tell you why an order was cancelled. Our system doesn't record a reason, so neither support nor our chat can look one up. The usual causes are seller-side: sold out, listing removed, or the exact option you picked withdrawn. If you had paid, the money returns to your DogeGoo balance.
- We can't remove a battery from a product. Built-in batteries usually ship fine on battery-capable lines (unavailable lines are greyed out with the reason at submit time), but loose batteries and power banks are much stricter and some countries have no available line at all.
- We don't handle pre-orders or pre-sale listings, including anything where the seller collects a deposit now and asks for a balance later.
Before you start
Two habits save most of the trouble. First, check the size chart on the listing itself for anything you wear — Chinese sizing runs smaller than US and EU sizing, and most costumes are made to a standard size, not to you. Second, film your unboxing: if something arrives wrong, damaged or fake, that video is what settles it with the seller. Once your items are on the Warehouse page you have 5 days to raise a return or refund from there, so it's worth opening the box promptly rather than letting it sit.
FAQ
Do I need a Chinese address, phone number or payment method to buy from Taobao?
No. That's exactly what a proxy buying service replaces. You create a free DogeGoo account, paste a Taobao, Weidian or 1688 link (or search by keyword or image), and we purchase the item from the seller and receive it at our China warehouse for you. You pay us in your own currency and we ship the parcel to your address abroad.
I only have a screenshot, no link — can you still find the item?
Yes. Upload the picture and we'll look for the same or a similar listing across Taobao, Weidian and 1688. This is the normal case for items found on Discord, X or Pinterest, where the original link is long gone. Keyword search and pasted links work the same way.
Do I have to approve the QC photos before my parcel ships?
There is no approval step that holds your order hostage. Every item is photographed when it arrives at our warehouse, and the photos sit on your Warehouse page for you to look at whenever you like. Nothing leaves China until you tick the items yourself and press Submit parcel, so you are the one who decides when it ships. The only time a parcel waits on you is when our quality check finds a problem and we come back to ask what you want to do.
How do you avoid bootlegs and fakes?
We stick to shops with strong recent sales and plenty of real buyer photos, and we skip prices that are far below normal for that item. Your QC photos then let you inspect the actual product before it ships, which catches most obvious fakes. We can't certify every third-party listing, so if authenticity is critical, send us the product link before ordering and prefer officially licensed sellers.
How much does shipping from China cost?
There is no flat rate. International shipping is charged by chargeable weight — the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight — times the rate of the line you pick for your destination. Combining several items into one consolidated parcel is the single biggest way to lower the cost per item. What payment methods can I use?
The payment methods available to you are the ones shown in your own checkout window, because availability depends on your country. Payment happens in two stages: the item price and China-domestic shipping first, then international shipping later, after the goods reach the warehouse and you pick a line. If a specific method matters to you, confirm it at checkout or with [email protected] before ordering.
Will I have to pay customs or import duty?
Import duty and VAT are decided by your own country's rules, the declared value and the goods category — not by us. They are normally the buyer's responsibility and are usually paid on arrival. We can't predict or influence what your customs authority will charge, so check your local rules if you want a firm answer before ordering.
Can I cancel an order or return an item?
It depends on the stage. An unpaid order can be cancelled by you from My Account → Orders; after payment but before we've actually bought it, an item may still show its own refund-request button on that page. Once an item is at our warehouse and appears on your Warehouse page, you have 5 days to request a return or refund from there — a change-of-mind return costs ¥5 per SKU plus ¥10 handling plus the seller's China-domestic return shipping, while a wrong, damaged or fake item is covered by the seller. Custom and made-to-order items can't be returned, and approved refunds are credited to your DogeGoo balance.
Is there a Taobao agent made specifically for cosplay?
DogeGoo is built around anime and otaku goods, and cosplay is one of its main categories rather than an afterthought — costumes, wigs, props and materials all go through the same buy, photograph, consolidate and ship flow. The part that actually matters for cosplay is sizing: Chinese sizes often run smaller than US or EU sizes, and most costumes are made to a standard size rather than to your measurements. Always read the size chart on the listing itself (usually bust, waist, hip and length in cm), measure yourself, and size up if you fall between sizes.
